BASICS OF COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

Hello friends, welcome to ELECTRICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA. In this article, we will study about the modern communication system.

WHAT IS COMMUNICATION ?

The term "communication" basically stands for the process of transferring information from one place to another.

Few hundred years back we were only dependent upon the physical mode of communication i.e, someone has to carry the message physically from one place to another. The speed of transmission was low , cost was high and more importantly, reliability of the service was affected by geographical and climatic conditions.

But nowadays Electronics Communication has entered into the mankind which has completely changed the face of human civilization. Whether you are watching live cricket match or doing video call to a friend living thousand miles apart, you are using the MODERN ELECTRONICS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. We will study it in detail....

BLOCK DIAGRAM OF ELECTRONICS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

Above figure shows the simple block diagram of a electronics communication system.  We will discuss about each block one by one.
BLOCK DIAGRAM OF ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

1. Channel - Since the communication is process of transferring information from place to another. So, channel is the media/medium through which information is sent. The channel may be a wired line like copper wire , optical fibre etc. or wireless such as atmosphere. Channel's function is to connect the sender and receiver.

2. Noise and Distortion -  Noise is a random , unwanted interference on the transmitted signal. Noise may arise due to various sources like lightning, electrical switching and various other external noise.
Distortion means the deformation of the waveform of the transmitted signal and it may mislead the receiver about the content of message.

3. Transmitter and Receiver -  Transmitter is provided at the sender's end. Transmitter is basically an electronic device that makes the input electrical signal suitable for transmission through the channel. Generally transmitter modulates and changes some parameter of the signal like amplitude , frequency .
On the destination side, receiver is provided. Receiver is an electronic device that receives the information from the channel and extracts the actual message from it. Receiver removes the noise, distortion from the transmitted signal.

4. Input & Output Transducer - The input transducer converts the signal to be transmitted into its electrical signal equivalent. This is done because the speed of electrical signal is as high as the speed of light and due to this speed of transmission becomes high. Microphone is an input transducer which converts the speech/audio into the electrical signal.

Whereas the output transducer converts the electrical transmitted signal into the form of message as decide by user like speech , image , video etc. Loudspeaker is an example of output transducer that converts the electrical input into audio output.
